[wpseo_breadcrumb]

If you have bought your new ecobee4 and you would like to connect them to google home, then you came to the right place.

If you plan on having an ecobee4 sometime in the future and you are wondering if they are compatible, then yes! Ecobee4 thermostats are more compatible now, and they have enabled the support of google assistant. Now Ecobee3, Ecobee3 Lite, and Ecobee4 smart thermostats can be controlled from Google Home or any other device that supports Google Assistant.

In this article, am going to walk you through the steps you need to take if you want to connect your ecobee4 smart thermostat or any other Ecobee thermostat to google home. I personally have the goggle home in my house and Alexa setup for this purpose. They are in different areas of my home.

Is Google Home Compatible With All Ecobee Thermostats?

Ecobee are now making some of the favorite smart thermostats you can ever have, and these thermostats are even getting pretty more compatible with the support of google assistant just as I have stated earlier.

The Ecobee3, Ecobee3 Lite, and the Ecobee4 can now be controlled from Google Assistant and any other smart device that supports google assistant. This, therefore, means that one can use their voice in setting up and checking the temperature or nudge it in a way they want to. All you have to do is to use phrases that will respond to the Ecobee thermostat, am going to share with you some of the commands here.

The addition of Goggle Assistant support does not change the fact that you cannot ask your Ecobee smart thermostat to goggle something. This only means that if you have an ecobee4 smart thermostat and have an android phone, you have more than one way that you can control the temperatures in your home.

Does Ecobee4 Work With Android?

You may be wondering if it is possible to control ecobee4 from an android device, well, you have some good news here. This is because it is possible to connect your ecobee4 using both a mobile app for Android and iOS because there is access to all of the features and the functionality.

However, there is no possibility as per now to use your Siri voice commands for HomeKit on the devices because the HomeKit technology of Apple is not yet compatible with that of Android.

How To Install Ecobee4 Without Google Home Speaker

The first step for the installation of ecobee4, and it is the most important step, but something that many people overlook is to make sure that the HVAC system is complete without power. The best way you man make sure to deal with this is by flipping the specific breaker in a homes breaker box, and hopefully, it will have some type of label.

Hen you complete that, it is now time to go to the ecobee4 thermostat. Before you remove any wires from the backplate, you have to tackle another issue with the C wire.

The C wire is the wire which provides constant power that your Ecobee4 needs for support with Google Home, Alexa, and even HomeKit. Depending on many factors, your HVAC system may or may not have a C wire. The best way you can tell is by checking the writing that is on your Ecobee4 thermostat. If a wire is connected to the port with a C label, then there is less to worry about.

If there is no C wire, it may become a little complex. You can take advantage of the installed wire that is not currently being used and repurpose the wire as your C wire. Alternatively, ecobee4 includes a Power Extender Kit that uses the existing wiring to enable fulltime power to the thermostat. I have an article here on everything about the power extender kit and the C wire for more information.

The next thing to do is to start unplugging wires from the existing backplate.  Ecobee4 includes wire labels that make better sense of the wiring. These labels, with a photo of the existing setup, should enable the setup to become much easier incorrectly placing the wires into the ecobee4 backplate.

Once you have now removed the wires and received their label, you now have to anchor the new backplate to the wall with the screws and anchors. There is an optional trip plate that is also provided that can be used to cover up any holes.

It is now the time to power back your ecobee4 thermostat. The screen should now come to life, and you can go through these setup process below.

  • Open the google assistant app
  • Tap on the top right corner of the screen
  • Tap on the ellipsis icon on the top right corner of the screen
  • Click on the settings
  • Under the services section, scroll down to the home control
  • Go through all authorization steps to link your Ecobee4 account to the Google assistant
  • Then start assigning them to a room for better control with the google assistant

When you have finished with all the pairing, google assistant will then integrate with all of the connected Ecobee3, Ecobee3 Lite or Ecobee4 smart thermostats.

Using Ecobee 3 (Non-Lite Version)

I have not run into this personally, but I have been reading about several users that were having issues in setting up the Google app with Ecobee 3 (Non-Lite Version). Some of the users across the board seem to be saying that that it may not show up in the Google Home app. The resolve for this kind of problem is this

  • Go to Google Assistant
  • Go to settings
  • Enter Home control
  • Press the plus button
  • Then you should now see an option to add your Ecobee and link your Ecobee account.

Google Assistant Commands for Ecobee4 Smart Thermostat

  •   Ok Google, turn the <Ecobee4 name> On
  •   Ok Google, turn the <Ecobee4 name> switch On
  •   Hey Google, turn the <Ecobee4 name> off
  • Ok Google, turn off all Ecobee4 thermostats

Does Ecobee4 Work Without Wi-Fi?

Ecobee4 works and can operate all your heating and cooling system without a Wi-Fi connection. Although you will need to have some wireless signal for other goodies that will make the Ecobee4 thermostat smart like Alexa and HomeKit support. If your Ecobee4 is having some issues with getting the wireless signal, the easiest solution is to go to the thermostat. Go to the Menu> Settings > Wi-Fi. From here, you can test your connection to the internet and ecobee.com

The other thing you can do is to try and restart the thermostat. You can gently and easily remove your Ecobee4 thermostat from its backplate and replace it after a few minutes.

This will hopefully cure your problems with Wi-Fi and internet connection. If it does not, you may then have to check the kind of Wi-Fi router you are using. Try to move the router closer to your Ecobee4 and see if that would help. You may also consider getting a better router. Consider replacing with a new model of router that will do your work quickly and make a huge difference in internet speeds.

Why A Smart Thermostat For Your Home?

There are many reasons why people buy smart thermostats. The reasons why an apartment owner would buy one are different to why a homeowner would buy one. The main one is comfort, convenience, and the energy-saving part.

From a convenience standpoint, it is very good to know when the temperatures in your home have suddenly dropped or when your baby’s room is not being heated properly.

When you have a smart thermostat in your home, you get to control what the temperature is, and this is through your smartphone or through Alexa from any room.

Comfort is king when you have smart thermostats. This is why I like to have complete control of the whole house.

What Smart Thermostats Work With Google Home?

  • Nest
  • Hive
  • Honeywell
  • Ecobee
  • Mysa

Below are the best smart thermostats that work with google home.

NEST – Best Smart Thermostat Compatible With Google Home

Nest partnered with google so that they could combat the marketing strategies of amazon and apple. This even makes sense that I mention them here as the first in the list.

Nest has been around in the smart thermostat market from 2010, and they are one of the top dogs. They recently introduced their 3rd generation, and it is a learning thermostat. It has four vibrant colors that you can change the display, and it is also easy to read.

The nest 3rd generation learning thermostat spends its time in learning your routine and saves you money by automatically adjusting the temperatures in the room. It will take some few days to learn your patterns, and once it does, it will work flawlessly.

It has a farsight feature; it lights up and shows you the temperature and the time when you are approximately ten feet away or less. Farsight brings a big beautiful display that you can see across your room and allows you to choose either a digital or an analog clock face. This nest thermostats come in four colors, copper, stainless steel, black and white.

Nest is a little more pricey compared to Ecobee thermostats, but it does come with a couple of features that Ecobee doesn’t. It can measure the humidity in the air, and it will turn on the air conditioning when needed automatically. Nest also has a neat feature that reminds you when it is time to change your filters on your furnace; this is based on how many times the furnace has turned off and on.

All in all, nest thermostats are probably the best smart thermostats you can use with google home. If you want to find out more or check the reviews on nest 3rd generation thermostat, use these link here to go over to Amazon.

Ecobee 4 – Best Smart Thermostat For Multiple Zones

Ecobee4 thermostat is the big brother of ecobee3 Lite. It comes with a few more features that are a big deal compared to the other versions of Ecobee. One of the features that may mean a lot to you is that they have Alexa built-in.

This means that, instead of having to add echo or echo dot into the room, you just have to talk to Alexa right through your ecobee4 thermostat.

The other nice and newest feature with ecobee4 thermostats is that it has room sensors that you can put throughout the house if you have a heating system that will support it. He sensors will pick up cold spots or hot spots in your home and then adjust to ensure there is comfort throughout.

Ecobee4 thermostats can also sense when the room is occupied, and you can set the heat to go off when you leave that room.

The strongest features of ecobee4 are the cost savings of having one of them in your home. They are easy to install just as I have illustrated above.

HIVE – The New Smart Thermostat On The Block

It may have taken them time to come around, but hive smart thermostats are compatible with google home.

Hive smart thermostats are all over the market right now and are definitely one of the emerging companies with some new smart technology. The hive family of smart family now includes smart lighting, smart cameras, smart lighting, and smart plugs.

These require that you get a hive hub that it comes with. They also need a c wire to help in the installation, and that is standard for most smart thermostats.

What hive is dong with their products is just amazing; the fact that their smart thermostats are now compatible with google home is just the game-changer.

Here  I have a link to hive smart thermostats where you can check their reviews. They are definitely worth a look.

Honeywell Lyric – Best Budget Thermostat

What is the budget you have? If all these other options are not getting you excited because of their price, Honeywell got you coved. Especially the Honeywell Lyric T5 smart thermostat. I am very impressed in the way Honeywell has adapted to the market; they may even be the leader.

The Honeywell Lyric T5 smart thermostat is a touchscreen thermostat with geofencing built-in and works with Amazon Alexa and does need a C-wire for the installation. It is compatible with both Siri and Alexa; they are well worth your money.

Honeywell thermostats have an adaptive feature that is called the adaptive recovery, which is where it learns how long it takes for it to achieve the right temperature and at the right time. The thermostat automatically turns your system on to get to your desired temperature and also auto changes from cool to heat when need be.

The other nice feature about Honeywell is that it has smart alerts that give push notifications when you need a filter change and extreme temperature warnings.

MYSA – Best Smart Thermostat FOR Baseboards

When it comes to heating your home using baseboards, it can be a different ballgame. Mysa has now helped to take all of the doubt and guesswork out of it though for high voltage/line voltage home heating.

If you have fan-forced heaters or electric baseboards in your home, then you know how it is expensive to heat. Using Mysa is one of the smartest ways you can use to save your heating bill up to 30%.

These are not the most expensive smart thermostats out there, but they have a price point that is not bad. They enable you to take full control of your homes energy usage using the Mysa app and get your voice through google home. They can also be added to Samsung SmartThings routine or setup IFTTT applets.

You can check to see more about Mysa smart thermostats here on.

Does Ecobee4 Support Humidity Feature

If there is one thing that I noticed while using my ecobee4 smart thermostat with Alexa and Google home, is that neither of them supports the humidity feature.

I recently asked y google home to tell me the humidity of my basement; it answered ‘sorry, am not able to reach the basement, please try again later.’ I also tried the same when I used my Alexa, and it said the basement does not support that.

You can see that this is a pretty useful feature because humidity problems are what people experience in certain arrears of their homes. It becomes easy to ask Google Home to tell you the humidity than having to go to the basement, running down the stairs to check.

This is one particular reason I would go for this nest 3rd generation learning thermostat because it supports humidity feature. Nest tells you the humidity of the home, although it is a little pricy.

Conclusion

Whichever smart thermostat you end up choosing, am very sure that you will be satisfied with it. The addition of google home makes them more useful.

I would personally rate ecobee4 smart thermostats at A- in the implementation of Google home, and I would easily change that to an A+ should they add the humidity support.
