How To Fix Oculus Link That Keeps Disconnecting From PC

Your Oculus Link might keep disconnecting from your PC. There are a few reasons for that disconnection:

  • Poor USB cable. Some cables have inputs that do not fit well in the designated port. The recommended USB Cable is USB 3 C to C since some users have given good feedback after using it.
  • Low power USB port. Your PC has several USB ports and some of them are low-powered. One result of using the low-powered ports is the constant Oculus Link disconnection.

The following are some of the effective ways of fixing this problem:

1. Use Another USB Port On The PC

We mentioned above that some USB ports on your PC are underpowered. You may try other ports and observe. USB port A may be the best port to always use. Normally, a PC has more than one USB port. It is advisable to use a powered USB hub (USB 3.0 Hub) for better results, though this will cost a little more, it is worth it. USB 3.0 Hub gives you a better USB connection for the Oculus Link. However, you may only purchase a powered USB Hub if all the other ports do not function as expected. If this does not work, proceed to (2).

2. Change The USB Cable

Oculus Link connection is necessary and your USB cable should not limit you. You may not be very specific with the brand of the USB cable. Some USB cables at your disposal can work effectively, much better than you thought. You will only need to test if the cable is compatible with Quest 2 and then try the Oculus Link connection.

Earlier in the article, I mentioned the recommended type of USB to use, USB 3C to C. Do not limit yourself to the recommended USB cable since there are some cables that would function in the same manner. You will only need to confirm whether it is compatible with both the Quest 2 and your PC.

3. Try Updating USB Drivers On Your PC

Updating the USB drivers could help solve this problem. Follow these steps:

  • Start Windows on your PC.
  • Search device manager and click on it to open.
  • Go to Universal Service Bus controllers.
  • Click on Update Diver for every controller.

This is the simplest way of updating USB drivers on your PC.

4. Check The Version Of Your GPU Drivers

Your Oculus Link connection might be faulty due to the old version of GPU drivers. However, some of the latest graphics card drivers (for NVidia and AMD) might have some problems resulting in the disconnection of the Oculus Link. You may need to use older versions for this case to see whether there will be excellent results.

If you have not upgraded your GPU version, it is necessary to upgrade but if the Oculus Link connection is still faulty, you may consider downgrading. The goal is to achieve a non-faulty Oculus Link connection.

5. Deactivate USB Selective Suspend

This is a software approach. USB Selective Suspend is a feature in Windows that controls the USB output power. It usually minimizes the USB power. Why should you disable this feature? Well, Oculus Link requires a lot of power and hence the feature is not useful for this function. Deactivating the feature is not hard. Here are the steps:

  • Go to Windows and select Control Panel.
  • Choose the Hardware and Sound then move to the Power Options.
  • Click on Edit power settings.
  • Then on the USB settings, Deactivate the USB Selective Suspend settings.

This will ensure maximum power output on the USB ports.

6. Use High OVRserver_x64.exe Process Priority

Again this involves Windows. Whenever you install Oculus Software, OVRserver_x64.exe is usually launched by Windows.

The high process priority of OVRserver_x64.exe may help solve the Oculus Link disconnection problems. Some users have used these procedures and given positive feedback. The procedure is simple. Click this link to know more about this procedure:

Other Ways Of Solving The Oculus Link Disconnecting Problem

The procedures given above are some of the simplest you can use. If the problem persists you can try these other procedures:

  • Repair The Oculus Software

Repairing your Oculus software could help solve the problem. It is very simple:

You will need a good internet connection to download the Oculus Setup. The Oculus Setup can be executed, so choose Repair after executing. The repairing process may take some time to be complete and do not interrupt the process. When it is complete, download it and install it. Finally, relaunch the Oculus App.  This is a complete Software repair for Oculus.

  • Try Reinstalling The Oculus Software Manually

You should try this procedure if the above does not work:

  1. Deactivate the internet connection for your PC (ensure that you have backed up the Oculus software).
  2. Put your PC in Safe Mode and then uninstall the Oculus software from your PC.
  3. You will need to erase all the Oculus folders on your PC.
  4. Restart the PC.
  5. Deactivate safe mode and activate normal mode.
  6. Download the Oculus software again reinstall it.
  7. Relaunch and try the Oculus Link connection.

It is expected to work as before since you have backed up the Oculus Software data.

How To Use Oculus Air Link To Connect Quest 2 To PC

You may try all the above procedures but find there are little or no good results, or you may want a wireless connection between Oculus Quest 2 and your PC. For both cases, Oculus Air Link is the best option. You will need Windows 10 for better results. Windows 11 is not tested and approved.

Follow these steps to use Oculus Air Link connection:

First, download the Oculus PC App then use your Quest 2 headset:

  1. Tap the button with an oval shape indicator on the right of the controller.
  2. The above step will take you to the universal menu, click on the extreme left of the menu, Quick Settings will appear. Open it to access the settings panel.
  3. Choose settings and then Experimental.
  4. Choose the icon next to Air Link which will prompt the pairing process.
  5. Few Air Link requirements will pop out, read them and click continue.
  6. Select your PC on the list of PCs and then Pair.
  7. With the VR headset on, you will see a code, remove the headset and confirm if the code matches the code on your PC screen. Confirm from the Oculus desktop App.
  8. Put the headset on again and click Launch.

How To Turn Off Oculus Air Link

You may not be using the Air Link every time. If you are not using the Air Link, follow these steps to turn it off:
