iRobot Braava Jet M6 vs Braava Jet 240

It may be difficult to mention the best robot mop when comparing iRobot Braava Jet M6 and Braava Jet 240. However, iRobot Braava Jet M6 is the latest technology in the market. In this article, we are going to describe some features of these robots.

Comparison Between iRobot Braava Jet M6 And Braava Jet 240

The comparisons are based on some of the robots’ features and functionality.

The Imprint Smart Mapping Technology

Imprint technology is one of the latest technologies for robot mops. The jet M6 has this technology but Braava 240 does not.

What Is Imprint Smart Mapping?

As the name suggests, Imprint Smart mapping is a technology that allows you to have the floor maps of your rooms. The technology helps your robot (Jet M6) to learn your floors and develop maps. After learning the maps of your rooms, you can use the map on your iRobot Home app to assign the robot mopping/cleaning tasks. The robot is capable of learning and storing a maximum of 10 rooms. You can therefore clean all these rooms daily if you want without re-programming the robot over and over.

The Imprint Link Technology

Just like the Imprint Smart Mapping Technology, you will not find this technology in Braava 240.  The technology allows Jet M6 to communicate with other robots, specifically compatible Roomba s and i series.

What Is Imprint Link Technology?

The Roomba will clean before the M6 begins. The Room cleans a room to completion then informs the M6 which then vacuum cleans the room. The process will continue based on the rooms that you have assigned the robots to clean. The robots cannot bump into each other while cleaning since they communicate and one robot cleans after the other one has completed.

Alternatively, you can have both robots working at the same time and in the same room without them bumping into each other. The Roomba can clean the carpeted floor and the M6 would clean the hard surfaces within the same room or different room based on how you have assigned them to work.

Robot Controls

There is a slight difference when it comes to controlling these two robots.

iRobot M6

This robot supports a WIFI connection and hence controlling it is easy. You will not have to control it manually using the buttons on the device. You can therefore use voice assistant devices from Google or Amazon Alexa. This makes controls very easy, you only need to mention the task and command the robot to have the tasks done. This is made possible since the robot has the capability of detecting which cleaning mode to use based on the type of cleaning pad attached to it.

Alternatively, you can use the iRobot Home app on your smartphone if you don’t have voice assistant devices. Programming the robot using the app is more reliable than using your voice since you can view the map of your rooms. Assigning the robot tasks is easy and effective.

Braava 240

Braava 240 does not support a WIFI connection. For this reason, you cannot control the device using voice assistant devices. Moreover, you cannot use the mobile app to control this robot. However, you can use the mobile app to check and update the robot’s software and firmware.

Since the device does not support a WIFI connection, the device control has been made simple. There is only one control button available.

Just like M6, the robot can detect the mode of cleaning based on the cleaning pad attached (sweeping pad or wet mopping pad). The major difference is that the robot will temporarily store the room’s floor map. The memory of the floor map in this robot is lost immediately after you detach the batteries for recharging.

Since the robot can temporarily learn the map of your floor, you will only need to press the one button on this device and it will begin cleaning. You don’t need any other button to command the robot to clean.  The robot cannot repeat mopping the same surface before the batteries die, the robot has the floor map and hence cannot repeat mopping the same surface. It may repeat mopping the same surface once the map is lost and this is when you have detached the batteries.

The Reservoir Tank Capacity

If you need a robot with a large reservoir tank, the iRobot Braava M6 is the best option for you. It has a capacity of 0.44 L.

The Braava 240 does not have a large tank capacity and can only hold liquid content of 0.15 L. You will therefore need to refill it whenever you are cleaning a larger room with sticky dirt substance on the floor.

Cleaning Solution

Certified cleaning solution for Braava Jet M6, and Braava Jet 240 robot mops is the Bona Hard Surface Floor Cleaner. However, in the interest of cost saving, you may want to read this post I wrote a few weeks back: The Best iRobot Braava Jet M6 Cleaning Solution Alternatives.

Ways Of Recharging

When it comes to recharging, you will enjoy using the M6. It has a Home Base charging station. Once the battery is about 10%, the robot will move to the charging station and recharge. After recharging, the robot will resume cleaning from where it stopped. You are therefore not involved whatsoever. This feature enables the robot to clean a large area.

Braava 240 is different. It does not come with a Home Base charging station but instead a battery charger and removable battery. Once the battery dies, you will have to connect them to the charger. The disadvantage is that you will lose the floor map memory once the batteries are out of the device. The device cannot resume cleaning from the last stop on its own.

The advantage is that the Braava 240 batteries can function for 180 minutes continuously before the batteries die. Therefore, you can clean a small room successfully before recharging the batteries.

You will know that the batteries are fully charged when there is a green light on the indicator.

Size Of Area To Be Cleaned

The M6 cleans a larger area than the Braava 240. We have mentioned earlier in the article that the device is built with the Imprint Mapping Technology hence able to clean up to 10 rooms.

M6 can recharge and resume cleaning from the last stop hence capable of mopping a very large area.

Braava 240 neither has the Imprint Mapping Technology nor can it recharge and resume. You will therefore have to clean single rooms at a time.

In a nutshell, the M6 cleans a larger area than Braava 240.

Common Features Between Braava M6 And Braava 240

  1. You can use the iRobot Home app for both robots. However, Braava 240 uses it only for software and firmware updates.
  2. Both robots have a water reservoir tank for wet mopping.
  3. Both robots are built with a jet sprayer.
  4. Both the robots have a 1-year warranty.
  5. You can use either a dry or wet pad on both robots as they support wet mopping and sweeping.
  6. Both the robots cannot vacuum clean.

Differences Between Braava M6 And Braava 240

  1. The M6 has Imprint Technology whereas Braava 240 does not have.
  2. M6 can recharge and resume tasks automatically while Braava 240 cannot and will require you to manually recharge the batteries.
  3. M6 supports wireless connections such as voice controls but Braava does not support this feature.
  4. The Braava 240 is smaller in size than the M6 in both height and width dimensions.
  5. The iRobot Home app is used for controlling and programming the M6 while for Braava 240, it is used for updates and information only.
  6. Braava uses a 2.0 navigation system while M6 uses iAdapt 3.0 which is a newer version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Braava 240 Damp Mop?

Braava 240 has another pad for damp mopping. Once the damp cleaning pad is attached to the robot, it will detect the cleaning mode. For damp mopping, the robot will make 3 passes while cleaning to achieve damp mopping. It will not leave your floor wet.

Can iRobot M6 Damp Mop?

The iRobot Braava Jet M6 mops floors just like a human. The front has a precision jet spray nozzle. When mopping, the M6 sprays a specific area and goes over it a few times before moving on and repeating the process, picking up dirt and grime.

The mop doesn’t seem powerful enough to take care of deep-set stains which will probably require some elbow grease from a human. But if you run the M6 regularly, you likely won’t have deep-set stains.

How Do I Use Imprint Link In iRobot Home App?

Follow these steps:

  • Open the app on your smartphone.
  • Choose New Job +.
  • Choose Mop After and make other selections of your choice.
  • On the top right corner of the New Job page, you will find the option of mop after vacuuming. Select it if you want to do that.

How Do I Use Imprint Link From Amazon Alexa?

This is the simplest way. Ensure that your Amazon Alexa is on and connected to the M6 robot.

To use the Imprint Link you need to say, ‘Alexa, ask Roomba to Vacuum and Braava to mop’.
