What To Do When Oculus Link Software Is Not Installing

You must have done a lot of software installations, and maybe not all of them were smooth and straightforward. Oculus Link software installation may also fail. If that is the case, in this article we are going to look at some ways of fixing the problem. Follow these procedures:

1. Manually Disconnect Headset From PC

This is the simplest method. You will not scratch your head hard, just unplug the USB connecting the Oculus Headset to your PC. You will need to restart your PC for better results.

Why disconnect the headset from the PC? Well, sometimes the installation process is locked when the headset is connected to the PC via USB, hence the incomplete installation. Some users have tried this process and it has worked effectively.

2. Deactivate VPN

Try disabling the Virtual Private Network to see whether the software installation process will run smoothly. VPNs are very useful but they may hinder the installation process. Note that this is not a compulsory step, installation may just take place even with VPN on but may fail at times.

3. Deactivate Antivirus And Firewall

Antivirus software may hinder software installation. The Antivirus and Firewall Software work in an almost similar way, monitoring incoming and outgoing networks, new/strange software, and may therefore control the process of installing the Oculus Link Software. Disabling Antivirus and Firewall might work for you effectively.

Deactivating Antivirus software will depend on the software you are using but for Firewall, you will just need to search it on your PC (tap on the search taskbar).

When you have completed the Oculus Link Software installation, you should activate the Firewall and Antivirus to control foreign software, and keep your PC safe.

4. Uninstall, Clean, And Reinstall Oculus Software

When installing software in a device, some files are installed during the process. Well, in this case, your initial endeavor of installing the oculus software might have left some files that you will need to clean before trying to reinstall the software again. This will help you begin a clean/fresh process. The cleaning process is also called Clean Uninstall. Follow these steps to do a clean uninstall:

  • Uninstall the Oculus Software from your PC (use windows, Add or Remove program).
  • Clean, remove all the Oculus folders from:
  1. C:/Users/[YOUR_USER]/AppData/
  2. C:/Program Files
  3. C:/Users/[YOUR_USER]/AppData/Local
  4. C:/Users/[YOUR_USER]/AppData/LocalLow
  5. C:/OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  6. C:/Users/[YOUR_USER]/AppData/Roaming
  • Restart the PC and download the Oculus setup
  • Try reinstalling the Oculus Software

5. Use A Different System Drive To Install The Oculus App

You might need to use a different System Drive to install the Oculus link software. Here is why: Oculus setup requires huge storage to install. Installation may fail due to less capacity. Oculus setup may use more than 9GB of disk space. This is a major reason why you should use another/different System drive. Another reason is that files might not configure well in the default location for installation.

Follow these steps to install the Oculus app on another system drive:

Press the Windows button and R to run the command and then follow this:

  1. Drive (:/Users/USERNAME/Downloads/OculusSetup.exe/drive=) this will new systems drive.
  2. Substitute drive with the letter of the drive that had downloaded Oculus.
  3. Substitute a new system drive with the letter of the new drive that you want to use for the Oculus installation.

Install the Oculus software after the above process.

6. Use The Latest Version Of Windows And GPU Drivers

Old versions may be the reason why Oculus Link Software is not installed. Install the latest versions of Windows and graphics card drivers (GPU Drivers) then try to install the Oculus Link software. For Windows, we recommend Windows 10 since Windows 11 is not widely used.

7. Make Oculus Setup Run As Administrator

Running the Oculus software setup as an administrator may help solve the installation problem. This is simple; you will only need to choose Run as administrator by Right-clicking. This may help you complete Oculus Link software installation.

8. Confirm The Error Using Setup Logs

The Oculus Setup log file has ERROR level log messages (scroll down the log file to find this) that may help you figure out what is making the Oculus Link software installation unsuccessful. This process might be unique and may need support from Oculus support; you will need to create a support ticket and write Log file to define your problem. To find the Oculus setup log file use this procedure:

  • Open Run Window by Clicking on Windows + R.
  • Type %LOCALAPPDATA%/Oculus/ and click Enter to Open OculusSetup.log file.

9. Disconnect All USB Devices

This is not a formal procedure but may work for you. Reduce external connection to see whether the Oculus Link software installation will be successful. This procedure is a trial and error process. It may work or not. If it does not work, proceed to this next action.

10. Seek Oculus Support

Create your Oculus Support ticket and describe your exact problem in detail. This should act as your final procedure/method. In your description, include the log file so that the answers you get are specific to your problem.
