Will MyQ Work With Genie, LiftMaster?


The myQ Smart Garage Hub and the myQ Garage were made to work with brands of garage door openers that were manufactured after 1993, have photoelectric sensors, have a program or a learn button.

Genie or Overhead

Intellicode 1 and Intellicode 2 garage door openers that are manufactured between 1996 and 2016. Though if you find the Genie or Overhead Door openers that are manufactured from 2016 to date, they are NOT compatible with them.

If you want to determine the year in which your garage door opener was manufactured, you just have to check at the serial number on the motor head. If you find the serial number starting with 16, then it was manufactured in 2016, if it starts with 17then it was manufactured in 2017, etc.

LiftMaster, Craftsman and Chamberlain

Garage door openers that are made after 1993 and they include all Chamberlain manufactured garage door openers. If you want to determine if the garage door opner you have is compatible, look for the learn button on the motor haed. If you have Yello, Purple, Orange, Red and Green learn buttons on your garage door opener the myQ Smart Garage Hub or myQ Garage is then compatible to your opener.


372.5MHz- KeeLog garage door openers. The Smart Garage Hub and the myQ Garage only work with Wayne Dalton garage door opener which run on a 372.5MHz frequency. They are compatible with Wayne Dalton openers that run on a 303MHz frequency. If you would want to determine the frequency of your garage door opener, check with the manufacturer.

Door requirements

  • The garage door must be a sectional door
  • The garage door must have the safety sensors installed.


The myQ Garage and the myQ Garage Hub will NOT oerate a garage door opener that has Di Switches, either can be configured to monitor your garage door opener. If I is in Monitor Mode, this is when the myQ app can advise if the door is open or it is closed but it cannot activate the garage door opener.

The myQ Garage or the myQ Smart Garage Hub will NOT operate a LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Craftsman or any other Chamberlain unit which uses a 433MHz frequency. These units will require a myQ Door Control paired with the myQ Garage Hub or an internet for them to use the app.

If the programming was not successful or the myQ app indicates that “Monitor Mode” then try to reprogram the system.

YES! The good thing about the MyQ Garage Wi-Fi hub is that it can work with up to 16 MyQ enabled devices like door openers, light controls and gate operators.

The MyQ Garage can monitor and also control two door openers that are compatible though there must be a second door sensor that is separate for the second door opener.

Is Alexa Compatible With MyQ?

According to Chamberlain, the MyQ will work with most brands you may find of garage door openers which are made after 1993 and have standard safety sensors.

MyQ works with Nest, Wink, Xfinity and SmartThings smart home systems. If you would like it to be compatible with apple smart home, then you may have to buy this adapter here on Amazon.

The adapter will enable you to control your garage door using Siri and enable you to create scenes so that the lights come on when the door goes up.

You may also use Google Home in controlling your garage door because Chamberlain works with Google Assistant and IFTTT. Though for you to be able to use both of them together, you need to have a plan either one month or one year plan with MyQ. Through the IFTTT you can then link the MyQ to Alexa and other smart home systems.
